How eSafeRIDE Operates in the Real World

A digital platform only succeeds if it maps accurately to the lived realities of its users. eSafeRIDE is not a monolithic application; it is a multi-modal ecosystem designed to serve specific stakeholders across Uganda, starting with the Makerere University environment. Below is a breakdown of how our primary actors interact with, benefit from, and sustain the platform.

The Stakeholder Journeys

Direct User Journey

Students & Staff with Disabilities

4 Steps
1

Registration & Configuration

A student with a physical impairment registers on the eSafeRIDE mobile application and configures their specific accessibility requirements (e.g., enabling voice navigation support or a high-contrast visual interface).

2

Ride Request

When needing to cross campus, they request a ride. The system's modified Dijkstra algorithm processes real-time campus topography to recommend a safe route and dispatches an accredited boda boda or accessible campus shuttle.

3

Real-Time Tracking

During the ride, the student can share live tracking with designated trusted contacts, ensuring complete visibility and physical security.

4

Journey Completion

Arrival at destination with verified drop-off at a ramp-accessible zone. Payment is processed securely via mobile money.

Outcome: Safe, accessible, and dignified campus mobility

Transport Provider Journey

Accredited Boda Boda Operators

4 Steps
1

Onboarding & Accreditation

An informal boda boda rider joins the eSafeRIDE network and undergoes formal safety training and a digital vehicle inspection via the driver application, evaluating critical metrics like brake fluid integrity, tire tread depth, and structural frame stability.

2

Dispatch & Navigation

Once accredited, the driver gains access to a stable, reputable customer base. They receive dispatch requests and navigate via approved safe corridors.

3

Service Delivery

Driver provides safe, respectful transport with passenger assistance protocols. Maintains vehicle safety standards throughout the journey.

4

Secure Payment

Receive payments securely through mobile money integration (MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money), formalizing their daily revenue stream.

Outcome: Formalized income with stable customer base

Institutional Journey

University Estates & Security Departments

3 Steps
1

Administrative Dashboard Access

University administrators and security personnel access the centralized eSafeRIDE administrative dashboard, providing live oversight of all accredited vehicles operating within the campus perimeter.

2

Geofencing & Monitoring

Monitor live movement of all accredited vehicles. If a vehicle deviates from designated safe corridors or enters restricted zones, the system's geofencing protocols trigger instant alerts for immediate incident response.

3

Governance & Compliance

Transform previously invisible campus transit into a governed, accountable infrastructure with full visibility and emergency response capability.

Outcome: Governed, accountable campus transit infrastructure

Partner & Funder Journey

Disability Organizations & NGOs

3 Steps
1

Sponsorship Setup

Development partners and NGOs can sponsor ride wallets directly through the platform's payment gateway, supporting inclusive education for disabled students.

2

Impact Monitoring

Access anonymized impact dashboards that track metrics such as the number of vulnerable students served, routes made safer, and academic attendance improved.

3

Reporting & Evaluation

Receive measurable returns on social investments with detailed impact reports, guaranteeing accountability and transparency.

Outcome: Measurable social impact with transparent reporting

Sector-Specific Use Cases

Accessible Campus Navigation

Dynamically calculating topographical constraints to guarantee drop-offs at ramp-accessible zones while explicitly routing vehicles away from staircases and unpaved, hazardous terrain.

Accessibility Spatial Computing Safety

Boda Boda Fleet Formalization

Transitioning unvetted commercial motorcycles into an accountable, university-tracked transit fleet via rigorous digital diagnostics and maintenance scheduling.

Formalization Fleet Management Accreditation

Emergency Transport & Security Alerts

Providing vulnerable passengers with a discreet emergency alert system that connects directly to campus security networks, bridging the gap between isolated individuals and institutional safety nets.

Emergency Response Security Protection

eSafeRIDE is designed to serve the diverse needs of all stakeholders in the campus mobility ecosystem.
